Situation
- Community Hospice Foundation moved from personalized appeal letters to appeal packages that were elaborate in design and expensive to produce. Donor response to the new appeal style was negative and donations dropped over a two year period.
- The Foundation receives a large number of In Memory and In Honor gifts due to families asking for donations in lieu of flowers at the time of a patient’s death. They wanted a program to capture these one-time donors as continual supporters.
- Staff changes meant that they could no longer manage the process of design, writing, print and mail. They were looking for a partner to manage the appeal process end-to-end.
ISF Solutions
- We all agreed that the donors needed to be better educated about the work of the hospice and the foundation. However, due to the diminished return on appeals for two years, the budget would not allow a newsletter / appeal letter cadence. To keep costs at a minimum, we designed an appeal letter that carried a personalized message on one side and static educational information on the back.
- We created a “Welcome Brochure” that is sent along with a thank-you letter to all new, one-time memorial donors. These donors are then included in the Annual Giving Campaign for a year but then dropped if they do not respond with another gift in that time.
